bow tie Our Accompanist

Martin Jones

Martin, our accompanist is talented and skilled. We are pleased that he shares his Saturday mornings with us. He keeps us all in order - note-wise - and shares the laughter.

Martin says . . .

Martin playing the piano

"I joined Parenthesis, the then Central Berkshire Music Centre Parents' choir, as their accompanist in 1992. Having received a musical training through childhood from the age of five, I have since pursued music as a dedicated amateur, playing the piano, 'cello, double bass and percussion. I also compose a little. I learnt the choral repertoire purely from the piano stool having no inclination to sing what so ever."

The choir says...

"Martin is a natural. He knows instinctively which section needs help and responds. He is endlessly patient with both choir and conductor! The 'composing a little' is very modest - the choir has already sung several of his pieces: Suns and Skies and Clouds, an arrangement of "I Sing of a Maiden" and a unique translation of Singing in the Rain into Latin - "In pluvio canto".  He is also a calming presence to everyone involved in the choir - including Valerie our Conductor!
